Hello Again!

Hi Everyone!

Isn't it just amazing how time just ZINGS by?
We've been busy for months, (well, maybe since the start of the year) and have totally lost track of our blog! OOPS

Maloa is finally on the mend from all her injuries of the last year. Its been a long haul and a lot of work to get back in good physical condition. After months of physical therapy, she is now able to get back to the gym for regular workouts, and can pretty much resume normal activities. Normal..hmmm what does that mean for Maloa? Maybe she learned a few things from this experience and when doing fun things, think before she just dives right into the extreme version of whatever she happens to be doing at the time!

We've been spending more time at home, working on little projects. That also could translate to - due to the state of the economy, its time to take a step back and review our crazy shopping sprees. ( And we love to shop!) Whatever it is, its good having her home .

We've been working in the yard. She planted a few shrubs and I have not once tried to bring them into the house. Maloa used to put silk flowers and plants in the yard and patio, because I would pull them out and bring them in the house. (TEEHEE) I had to keep busy while she was gone.Teach her to leave me alone!

Maloa went to Disneyland and had a blast! Mom and Dad treated Maloa and her niece Joviann to a vacation in Calif. They also got to visit relatives and her 96 year old grandmother! I got to have nonstop play with my friends Pinot, Bentley and Sydney ! I stay with them when Maloa goes away.I was wiped out and it took days to recoup!!

So we've been busy with work, Aloha festivals, birthday parties, girl day parties(mostly about the girls getting together for wine and gab) face painting jobs. Graduations and baby showers are upon us. Dinners and lunches with friends ,old and new. Its been a pretty full almost half a year.

The intense heat of the southwest desert will soon be upon us, and we have some indoor projects planned. I think it involves paint, but not the kind Maloa does on canvas and pottery.(Which by the way, she has been doing a lot more of! This is great healing therapy for her)

OK, so we'll try to get on the ball a little more with this blog.

Wishing you all a safe and happy summer , wherever you may be.

Blessings

Makena and Friends: 2008 Reflection

Makena and Friends: 2008 Reflection

2008 Reflection

I cant believe its just about the end of 2008.

Sorry some time went by without a word. Maloa has been under re-construction.

A series of unfortunate accidents has her now in physical therapy. She sustained some serious back injuries while on vacation this summer in Hawaii. A lot of hard work in physical therapy, and she is almost good as new. The biggest obstacle now is that she can NOT wear any high heels for a while. Maloa loves shoes, and by that I mean HEELS . However, this has opened a whole new world for her. Its called FLAT S. Happy to announce she is on the mend.

And there are some happy shoe stores in town.

Its been an exciting year. Mom and Dad took her on a trip to Wash DC. A truly great experience, and hoping to make more trips out that way, as there is just SOOOO much to see .Got to visit with niece Krystal and great nephew Kekai while in DC.

A trip to Grandmas 95th birthday party in Mission Viejo Calif. So wonderful to see Grandma in great spirits, not to mention lGrandma looks great for her age. Also to be able to visit with family.

Next was my niece Kehau's wedding at Kualoa Ranch on the island of Oahu. She and her groom Eric had the most fabulous wedding ever. In the grandest style, their wedding was done in the classy jazz era of the 1920s-1940s. Everyone participated and dressed for the event. Young and old, all were transformed.A totally amazing , and spectacular event, as no detail was left out.

OK, so that's where my injuries began , and pretty much spiraled downhill from there. I wont get in to it in detail, but it involves a fall on a small embankment( injuries to the left hip and thigh, eventually leading to lumbar spinal compression OUCHY), a torn right calf muscle after body surfing at Sandy beach.A trip to the emergency room. But Maloa was able to salvage the rest of her vacation, (as in, continuing her trips to the beach, even in the leg cast. Thanks Dad for sawing it down to a more comfortable knee high cast) and deal with the rest of the problem once back on the mainland.

Months of physical therapy and finally Maloas health is being restored.

It has been a good year though. We have seen old friends and lots of family. Made many new friends, and some very special ones.

The family continues to grow. We will see a new addition next summer ,as Eric and Kehau are expecting their first child. What joy!( No news yet as to whether its a girl or boy.So far only known as "Peanut White") OK then.

We are blessed with good health and family and friends, and wish the same to all of you this coming year, and always.

We hope that 2009 bring you much joy and happiness, prosperity and whatever you wish for!

Blessings!

Aloha Everyone

Aloha

I can't believe its already October!

This is my favorite time of year. End of the sweltering hot days of summer. Granted, its still toasty(although its a" dry heat" ) here during the day. The nights are so beautiful though, and so are our fabulous sunsets! The skies are just painted in so much color.

It is also time for our annual Luau for the Hawaiian Club. It is quite an event, and a lot of people involved in putting it all together. Looking forward to seeing old friends, eating some ono Hawaiian food! Kalua pig, poi, haupia, mmmm! Of course, enjoying beautiful hula and Hawaiian music.

This will be a busy month. There are a lot of party's and events. The neighborhood is having its annual pot luck. It is always nice to reconnect with the neighbors. We are all so busy, and some new people have moved in, and some have passed on. We'll all do a little catching up.Also coming up are what seems like endless birthday parties.

Also on Maloa's agenda are Halloween parties! Dress up ones. Good for her, but I hope she doesn't make me wear that dreadful outfit again this year!

Its an angel costume. Yea you heard me. A halo and wings. Aren't I angel enough, just like I am?

The last time she put that outfit on me, I was totally humiliated! I refused to walk, sit , obey any commands. First of all, how do you even move with that stuff on? What was she thinking?
I am a bows and bandanna kind of pup! However, I DO like my winter sweater.

Hope you have a marvelous month and enjoy the change in seasons wherever you are. The holidays are fast approaching, and we will surely be busy.

Happy Halloween!

Blessings!

Hello again!

This weekend just flew by so fast.

I got a clean bill of health from the vet, so I got to go to the groomer on Saturday.

I just love Groomin Tyme! Grace and the girls are the best! They are a very busy shop, and they take good care of us. We aren't caged,so we get to play till its our turn for grooming.

I have a lot of friends there. Dakota ( a Maltese) and I are on the same schedule, and we play till we absolutely drop from exhaustion. Then we rest a few minutes, and start all over again. Sometimes the older dogs get annoyed by us more playful ones. Once I get my bath and grooming, I am off limits for playing, so I don't get dirty. I then go and lay on my blanket and pout. I don't like it when I cant play. I just ignore everyone, and I don't even eat my snacks. I just want my Maloa to come and pick me up.I am always happy to see her.

We always go shopping after the groomers. We go to the pet store where I graduated from obedience classes, and visit some of the regular staff . I love to explore the store. I get to pick out a little snack all by myself. There is so much to see. Birds, fish, ferrets, dogs and cats up for adoption from the rescue shelter, and even snakes!!

A few weeks ago, after some of our heavy monsoon rains, I alerted Maloa to an intruder in our home. She had gone out for the evening, and when she came home, I was jumping up and down, turning in circles, panting real hard. Maloa thought I was just glad to see her. I was trying every way I could to let her know that there was danger!! Then she picked me up and somehow she turned to the door and saw it!

There was a SNAKE curled up right where she had been standing in the entry way! Our hearts were pounding so loud. I was scared out of my wits when Maloa screamed! She put me on a chair and told me not to move. Hey, not a problem for me! She went and got a broom from the garage( and really fast ,too) I don't know how , but she held the snake at bay, got the front door opened by stretching like some kind of elastic woman, and gently nudged the snake outside.
We were strong and brave, and we were shaking like crazy!

For the next two hours, Maloa all but tore apart the entire house looking for any more snakes. She was sure if there was one, there had to be hundreds! We did not find anymore. We had the heebeegeebees for days!!

A few days later, we identified the snake as a bull snake, common to our desert areas. While they are harmless, we still would rather they just stay outside. In the desert.Way up on the mountain would be good.

Our summer monsoon rains wash a lot of critters from their holes and hiding places.
Also, the lightening and thunder scares the heck out of us animals, and the winds blow down fences and gates. So just a reminder to all the pet owners to secure their yards and make sure your pets are licensed and tagged. If we get lost, hopefully someone will be so kind as to help us get back home to our families.

As always, time just flies by! I am comfortable on Maloa's lap, and ready for a snooze.

We hope you all enjoy a great week , and say an extra prayer for our soldiers.

Aloha and Blessings!

TGIF

Hello again!

Thanks to all of you who stopped by this week. Granddad, sister Dawn, cousins and some new friends.

In the future,we will talk about some of the ideas presented to us. Companion and Pet therapy, grooming , Bichons, socializing( yeah ,play time) and training and behavior tips.I do some tricks, and they were so easy to learn. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yeah! for the weekend! Every Friday morning when Maloa wakes up,she tells me TGIF, and I know that the next couple of days I get her all to myself!

I don't like when she leaves for work, and I let her know it. I give her a really sad face, and she lavishes me with treats. I hide one of my cookies every day, and eat it when she returns home. Maloa shares an apple or pear everyday with me and Gloria, our parakeet. We sit on the swing on the patio. It is our daily ,after work ritual. Sometimes when she takes too long to give me my piece of fruit ,I get a little vocal and let her know. Once in a while I am naughty, and try to take Gloria's fruit from her cage.Rarely am I successful, but its fun trying.

Today I had to go to the vet. Maloa had some trauma yesterday when she came home from work and saw a big lump on my back. I am fluffy and white usually have ribbons and a bandanna .I am always neatly groomed, so this totally freaked her out! The Vet said I had a swollen gland. He then proceeded to shave my back about 3 inches in diameter, and took the lump out. He said not to worry, it would be easy, and it wasn't life threatening." Easy" for him to say.Besides, the little procedure really HURT and now I look goofy. As always, I was a good girl , and gave everyone kisses when it was over.I am sweet that way.

Our friend Poalani, a mini schnauzer, passed away this week. Her mom Darla was so heartbroken, as they had been each others companion for almost 18 years. "Po" had a wonderful life with Darla and her sister Keiki( a long haired chihuahua) We brought them flowers and a card and pray for healing time.

It will have to be a quiet weekend. I shouldn't be running around too much for a couple of days while my back is healing, and my fur grows in. I was not able to go to my Friday night visit with Dick and Judy. Maybe tomorrow. Guess I'll call it an evening,I am getting sleepy now from all that excitement at the Vets.

We will be back soon, and on to new ideas.

Have a happy and restful weekend.

Aloha and sweet dreams,

Makena and Maloa
